:: Special Delivery ::
shots taken from the Special Delivery exhibit that took place in the long abandoned Flint Ink factory, now slated for future office complex.
Special Delivery was a project from Endless Canvas, where 80+ Bay Area artists were invited to COVER a 36K’ sq. ft., 3-story, warehouse in top-to-bottom murals & individual pieces.
you can view the set here.
:: Clarion Alley, A Child and Some Pigeons ::
Clarion Alley , a very curious child, and a kit of furious pigeons.
:: GOSR and SEMEL ::
recently Facebook teamed up with Spotify and held a launch party to celebrate the US arrival of Spotify. However, prior to the event, local graffiti artists, GOSR and SEMEL, were able to completely cover the building in what I must say is a fantastic piece of work.
:: Wheat Paste Studies ::
Last glimpse we took a look at wheat pasting in the wild was on Leavenworth Street, this time we just hop a few blocks over to Larkin Street and take another peek at local wheat paste art that helps make this city so interesting.
:: Banksy in SF ::
This is making the rounds all over the SF-focused-interwebs, but I figured I’d add my shots too. ’tis SF banksy madness – Banksy in SF!
Famous UK/artist/mate Banksy was/is apparently in town for the opening of the film “Exit Through the Giftshop“. These are 6 of the known 11? Banksy’s in SF.
here’s a link to my flickr set of Banksy shots & a posting here on Berderp about Banksy’s visit to New Orleans.
:: Banksy – New Orleans ::
In 2008, renowned graffiti-artist Banksy, cruised through New Orleans proper and proceeded to bust out about 15 – 17 pieces in the area. Since then, some have been stolen, or buffed over. In particular, one man, Fred Radtke , aka The Grey Ghost, at one time lead a 1-man crusade against graffiti in the New Orleans area since 1997. He would buff over insanely good pieces – including Banksy’s. Finally, at one point Fred buffed over a city commissioned mural, and at that point the city’s stance with him took a 180 degree turn and he was warned that he would face jail time if caught defacing anymore walls.
nevertheless, all these shots were taken just recently, and I was able to get almost all of the one’s that are still currently up – minus a few pieces. Other famous pieces that were buffed over you can find on Flickr or Google by searching.

:: 5Pointz Aerosol Art Center ::
Recently on a trip to NYC I took the 7 over to Queens, NY to visit the venerable 5Pointz Aerosol Art Center (aka the Institute of Higher Burnin). This outdoor exhibit space features over 300+ pieces and murals, from artists all over the world. The building itself is a 200,000 square foot warehouse situated in Long Island City & initially opened in 1993 under the name Phun Phactory. It’s current curator and “housekeeper” is Jonathan Cohen who helped re-open the space in 2001 after it was almost destroyed by vandals. I am hoping to cover more of this building in the future since part of the structure was inaccessible since earlier this year when a fire escape collapsed. I won’t be able to show all the pieces, obviously, so you can see the flickr set here.
:: Iz the Wiz : RIP 2009 ::
my buddy plug1 over @ whatimseeing invited me along for some fotosnappin’ tonight of a memorial mural recently done for “Iz the Wiz” aka Michael Martin, who passed away suddenly while in Florida at the young age of 51. I really enjoy graff (as any frequenter to Berderp knows) but I just hadn’t done enuff homework I suppose & am just now stumbling across the legendary: Iz the Wiz. So here’s a short shout-out to a sorely missed figure in the graffiti culture. [can any one identify who did this piece below?]
Iz began his career in the early 70’s, being a Queen’s native, and had a nascent rise to the creme de la creme as one of NYC’s prolific graff artist . Known for his popular “Iz” tag, he was featured in the venerable Style Wars documentary, and also appeared in Wild Style. He held the title of “All-City” King for many, many years throughout the 70’s & 80’s. But so many years of inhaling aerosol fumes without protective masks lead to kidney issues in the 90’s, and then finally his passing away last month.
12oz prophet has quite a bit of links on him
you can see more of IZ’s work here & here.

:: UrbEx : Pier 70 : Warehouse 6 ::
For this installment berDerp brings to you another UrbEx series.. thanks to my boy plug1, we tracked over to Pier 70 on Sunday.. and I got some niftY fotos for you today..
Warehouse no 6 was built in 1941 and sits on the 60 acre area known as Pier 70. A nice aerial image of the entire area can be found here. Warehouse # 6 is known at the “Light Warehouse”, and is over 500′ in length. Originally this building was the storage location of pieces that were used to outfit a ship once it was floated into one of the web basins.
Ships started being constructed in the Potrero Point and Mission Bay area as far back as the Gold Rush. Now several buildings are vacant, but there is still an active dry dock on the grounds.

:: Dream ~ R.I.P. ::
Tonight I trekked over in the rain to Rx Gallery to get a glimpse of the Mike “Dream” Francisco memorial exhibit. Mike has had a lot of influence on the style and forms of graffiti writing — unfortunately in 2000 Mike was murdered and his killer remains free till this day
However, in his own words it couldn’t be said more eloquently: Dream, don’t sleep
