:: Shooting Gallery – Aaron Nagel ::

Currently at the Shooting Gallery Aaron Nagel, an Oakland based artist is on exhibit, and I wanted to share some images from his work.

My girlfriend talked to Aaron about his work that featured a standout piece of singularity – that being of all the hands covered in black smeared like ink, and what this symbolized. Perhaps past sins, current evil & transgressions in their lives. Amongst this symbolism therein lies more references in pieces to organized religion, specifically Catholic martyrs.

Aaron told us first he photographs the models extensively in his home studio, then he proceeds to transform them into the oil pieces he produces. His text are almost Biblical like in the presentation of the fonts.

Often his women are seductive and violent, but you also get sense of the fragility of humanity at the same time.

This exhibit ends at the Shooting Gallery on March 27th 2010.

On October 16th, local urban art purveyors 1:AM Gallery kicked off the opening night of their current show: Eternal Sleep – Tribute to Dia de los Muertos. In proper, and always fitting, style 1:AM delivered a hot night of fresh  talent -(although on the bit darker side of themes),  and good beats. This current exhibit runs till November 6th 2009.

I didn’t get to stay long but let’s take a look:

Currently at the Ever Gold Gallery (located on O’Farrell) is the “Von Doom” exhibit: a celebration of heavy-metal inspired art with a focus on image-makers of the current metal scene. This exhibition, on display during October, brings together a variety of artists hailing from places as far away as the U.K. and Australia. {evergold}

can you imagine seeing Metallica in 1989 late part of summer, LA style-y, on the Damaged Justice tour

Or seeing Ozzy doing songs from No Rest for the Wicked, or playin teasers from No More Tears. Yeaah OzzYy!

Thursday Sept 3rd marked the opening night of 111 Minna’s newest exhibition titled: Neighborhood SF – featuring the works of nearly 2 dozen Bay Area artists. Ryan Malley (ArtPrint.net) and Martin Olive (sQuint) are the curators for this exhibit.

Neighborhood SF brings you this overall great package that features some textural insights to the many SF neighborhoods.

This exhibit runs till Sept 26th 2009.
